Assistant Controller

We are searching for an assistant controller to join our growing team in San Carlos. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the systems and processes for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting financial information. This position requires both strong accounting and operational knowledge of the company. You must be comfortable working in a high-growth environment and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management. The ideal candidate will have IPO and public company experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supporting the full cycle general ledger monthly and year end close and all related activities to ensure accounts are properly reconciled, reported and are in compliance with GAAP.
  • Manage and oversee daily operations of the accounting functions including accounts payable, general ledger, fixed assets, expense reports and payroll.
  • Perform regular closing activities such as journal entries, reconciliations and review transactions for proper accounting treatment. Ensure deadlines are met in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet and cash flow reports.
  • Assist the Controller in designing and implementing internal controls, policies and procedures for financial reporting.
  • Streamline processes for greater accuracy, financial control and efficiency. Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation across all finance areas.
  • Continuous improvement of the team’s workflow, efficiency, accuracy and communication.
  • Provide assistance with external auditors to ensure audits are supported efficiently via preparation of PBC schedules and requested auditor analyses.
  • Perform monthly flux analysis for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Support external tax advisors on preparation of federal and state income tax returns; manage other tax requirements including sales & use, city and property tax.
  • Responsible for leading, managing and developing accounting staff.
  • Other responsibilities as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required, CPA is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, with big 4 experience desired.
  • At least 7 years of accounting experience, prior role as Accounting Manager required with direct reports demonstrating leadership and solid managerial skills.
  • IPO experience.  Experience with public company also preferred.
  • Experience with system implementations a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, meet deadlines, work collaboratively.

  • Candidate should be detail-oriented, self-motivated, be able to work within tight deadlines, and be able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail while maintaining the big picture.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Advanced Word and Excel skills (pivot tables, vlookup and data analysis).
